Aircraft manufacturer Airbus has joined forces with Sensolus, an expert in connected asset management, to create more transparency in its supply chain and manufacturing processes.

By using IoT tracking technology, Airbus can monitor the movement of materials and logistics assets, which maps workflows and increases efficiency. The collaboration is in line with Airbus’ strategy to continuously innovate in a rapidly digitising world, where industry 4.0 is playing an increasing role. In a rapidly changing aviation landscape, Airbus remains focused on meeting the highest quality and performance standards.

One of Airbus’ main goals was to create a “digital twin” for the assets used in the production of aircraft components. Thanks to Sensolus’ IoT tracking technology, industrial assets are now fully visible in various workflows, both inside and outside the business environment. This includes accurate tracking of logistics assets, which is crucial for transporting parts during the production process. This allows Airbus to avoid delays, minimise risks and optimize the production chain. The result: a proactive and more reliable production flow.

Bluetooth technology

Airbus has also implmented Sensolus’ latest Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to track specialised tools in warehouses and workshops. This enhances inventory management, prevents theft, and provides real-time visibility of tool locations, leading to significant improvements in productivity.

One of the most notable benefits of this technology is the ability to quickly respond to urgent tooling needs at different workstations. Thanks to IoT technology, Airbus can locate misplaced tools within minutes, minimising delays and disruptions in workflow. This saves Airbus valuable time and further streamlines the production process.

Cooperation for the future

The collaboration between Airbus and Sensolus extends beyond a traditional supplier-customer relationship. Through a dedicated customer success team at Sensolus, Airbus receives customised support to ensure seamless integration of the IoT solution. Sensolus’ advanced algorithm ensures uninterrupted data flow and monitors critical information about tracked assets, both in Europe and beyond. Sensolus and Airbus continue their dynamic partnership to take the future of the aerospace industry to new heights, with innovation, efficiency, safety and customer satisfaction at the core of their collaboration.

Pieter Claeys, Product Manager at Sensolus:

“The Sensolus team understands Airbus’ needs perfectly. In collaboration with Airbus, our teams have worked to adapt and refine our solution to meet their wide range of IoT use cases. This truly makes us partners in innovation.”
